Tuesday, November 10
An officer stopped a car for speeding on Prospect Hill Road at 6:05 a.m., cited the driver, and also gave him a verbal warning for driving with an expired license. The car was towed. At 9:57 a.m. a caller reported receiving harassing phone calls from the number 555-555-5555. Detective Jack Izzo said this number is sometimes used by telemarketers to block caller identification. At 2:25 p.m. a caller reported a suspicious-looking man, holding a clear plastic bag full of clothes, sitting on the curb in front of Dunkin’ Donuts. The man told the investigating officer he was waiting for a ride from his girlfriend. At 2:42 p.m. the ambulance transported a woman from a Stow Road residence to Emerson Hospital. Police responded to the scene of a three-car accident on Ayer Road at 4:58 p.m. All three cars were traveling south on Ayer Road, when vehicle number 3 rear-ended vehicle number 2, forcing it into vehicle number 1. Vehicle number 2 sustained heavy damage in the rear; vehicle number 3 sustained minor front-end damage. There was no visible damage to vehicle number 1. No tow was required, and there were no injuries. The driver of vehicle number 3 was given a written warning for following too closely.
Wednesday, November 11
Firefighters responded to a smoke alarm at a Pinnacle Road residence at 6:26 p.m. The source of the smoke was found to be burned food. No action was required. At 8:47 p.m. a caller reported a hitchhiker in the center of town. Police checked the area, but found no one. The ambulance transported a man from an Old Mill Road residence to Nashoba Valley Medical Center at 10:44 p.m.
Thursday, November 12
A caller reported at 12:15 p.m. that a vehicle had cut her off on Ayer Road, and was in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot. She was able to give police the plate number of the car. Police did a computer check of the plate number and found that it had been revoked for insurance reasons. They did not locate the car, but notified the Ayer and Shirley police departments to look for the car.
Friday, November 13
A caller reported at 10 a.m. that someone may be hunting without permission near the McCurdy track. Police found the hunters on Prospect Hill Road, where they were hunting with permission. They had parked their vehicle near the track. Police advised them to park near where they’re hunting in the future. At 2:15 p.m. a Pinnacle Hill Road resident reported that two dogs had killed her six guinea hens. The dogs’ owner was located and informed he would be advised on the amount of restitution due to the owner of the chickens. At 3:10 p.m. someone stopped at the station to turn in a key found on Tahanto Trail near Bowers Road. The key is still at the station. At 5:17 p.m. a caller reported that her car had been side-swiped by a car on Ayer Road that had left the scene. Police found that the car had sustained moderate damage on the driver’s side. The driver was unable to provide a description or plate number for the car that left the scene; there were no witnesses to the accident. At 6:32 p.m. a caller reported that a car being driven erratically had pulled onto Ayer Road from Route 2. Police located the car and arrested the driver, Brenda Torrici, 22, of Lunenburg, for driving under the influence of alcohol. At 10:33 p.m. a caller reported trespassers at a South Shaker Road address. Police did not locate them.
Saturday, November 14
Firefighters responded to a smoke alarm at Holy Trinity Parish at 5:24 p.m. No cause for the alarm was found. The ambulance responded to a report of a medical emergency at a Stow Road residence, where a child was reported to be choking. The child was alert and breathing normally when emergency technicians arrived; hospital transport was refused. At 10:35 p.m. a Barton Road resident reported that a group of teens had thrown hundreds of plastic forks into the front yard. Police located the youths at 11:52 p.m. and escorted them to the Barton Road residence to clean up.
Sunday, November 15
A man was taken by ambulance to Emerson Hospital from a Stow Road residence at 12:17 a.m. A caller reported at 11:52 a.m. that people were removing equipment from a business on Ayer Road. Police determined that the people were retrieving equipment that belonged to them. At 2:46 p.m. a caller reported that people were hunting in an inappropriate area on Madigan Lane. Police spoke to the hunters, who said they would not return to the area. At 8:15 p.m. the ambulance took one person to Leominster Hospital from the scene of a single-car accident on Route 2.
Monday, November 16
A Simon Atherton Row resident reported at 5:48 a.m. that a car had been idling in front of the house for about 15 minutes. The caller did not provide a description of the vehicle, which was gone when police arrived to investigate. At 12:30 p.m. a caller reported that a tall, silver truck had clipped some phone lines on Still River Road near St. Benedict’s, causing the utility pole to snap. Police notified Verizon and provided a traffic detail to detour cars around the area until Verizon technicians finished working in the area, around 10 p.m. At 8:22 p.m. someone stopped at the station to speak to an officer about her daughter’s unruly behavior.
