Eldridge visit postponed

State Senator Jamie Eldridge’s planned visit to Hildreth House Oct. 23 has been postponed.


Veterans’ agent Lyddy to visit COA

Veterans’ agent Dennis Lyddy will be at Hildreth House Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. to discuss veterans’ benefits that may be available to veterans and their widos. Senior veterans and adult children of veterans are encouraged to come and learn what is available. Call the office to sign up.


Flu clinics coming to Hildreth House

Nashoba Nursing Services will administer vaccinations for pneumonia, influenza, and tetanus at Hildreth House Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m., and Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 1 to 2 p.m. It is not known whether H1N1 vaccinations will be available at these clinics.


On the road with COA

Call the Council on Aging office at 978-456-4120 for more information or to sign up for trips. Anyone who cannot afford a trip should contact the office about a scholarship.
Thursday, Oct. 22: This COA trip features a visit to Boston’s Symphony Hall to hear an open rehearsal of an all-Beethoven concert led by conductor James Levine. Trip-goers will leave from Hildreth House at 8 a.m., take in a pre-concert lecture and the concert, stop for lunch, and return by 3:30 p.m. Cost is $22 plus lunch.

Early reservations recommended for these upcoming trips:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 4: This trip to Acton will offer an opportunity to see a dress rehearsal of City of Angels, a musical comedy set in the glamorous, seductive Hollywood of the 1940s. It’s a tale of decadence and homicide, with a liberal sprinkling of femmes fatales. The van will leave Hildreth House at 7 p.m. and return by 10 p.m. Cost is $2 for the van; the performance is free.
  • Thursday, Nov. 5: COA travelers will head to Old Sturbridge Village Theatre to attend the Cabaret LuLu presentation of This is My Country, a professional off-Broadway production that invites the audience to join the cast in celebrating America with song and laughter. Lunch will be in The Tavern. Choices are meat pie or grilled salmon. The group will leave Hildreth House at 10:15 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. Cost is $48, including lunch.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 18: This COA trip to the Hu Ke Lau restaurant in Chicopee offers travelers Hawaiian Christmas entertainment and dining in a setting that includes running waterfalls, giant Banyan trees, lobster ponds, aquariums, and a replica of the caverns of Mt. Fuji. On the return trip the van will make a stop in Wilbraham for a tour of Friendly’s Ice Cream Factory. The trip will start from Hildreth House at 9:45 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. Cost is $35, including lunch.
