Police Chief Ed Denmark told the Press Tuesday that he is “confident that charges will go forward” against the three teens that stand accused in the August vandalism spree that caused damage in Harvard and Bolton.
In August one or more persons in a car or cars “did donuts” on Harvard town fields and lawns, including the Depot Road soccer field, the Ryan field, the field in front of the Bromfield School, and lawns in front of the library and in the front and back of the elementary school. Some of the fields were struck twice. In Bolton, vandals damaged lawns on at least four private residences.
Earlier this month Harvard police confronted the Harvard teens suspected in the case after Bolton police provided them with the license plate number of a car involved in the incidents, which was reported by a witness in Bolton.
Denmark said that a request to file charges has been submitted to the Clinton District Court, which has jurisdiction in the case, although summonses have not been issued. He noted that names of those accused could be released by the court if a probable cause hearing determines that charges should be filed against them. He added that the scheduling of probable cause hearings typically “takes a few weeks.”
When asked if the teens involved in these incidents might be also responsible for other instances of vandalism that have been reported in recent weeks, he said his department “has found nothing connecting them.”
