Senior film series at the library
The public library and the Council on Aging are teaming up to offer a film series in Volunteers Hall at the library from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday afternoons June 8, June 15, June 22, and June 29. Popcorn and beverages will be served. The first film will be John Adams, a mini series that was first shown on HBO and was the recipient of a Golden Globe award. The movie, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by David McCullough, chronicles the life of John Adams, and explores the relationship between Adams and his wife, Abigail.
Podiatry clinic
A podiatry clinic will be held at Hildreth House Tuesday, May 19, with Dr. Gregorian. Call the Council on Aging (COA) to schedule an appointment. There will be a $25 charge, payable to Dr. Gregorian at the time of the appointment.
Bach’s lunch concert
Indian Hill Music in Littleton will present a free concert featuring a woodwind quartet performing a variety of music Thursday, May 21, from noon to 1 p.m. Coffee, tea, and cookies will be provided.
Track your ancestors by computer
The COA will offer a free introductory class on computer-based genealogy research Monday, May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hildreth House. The class will offer information on Internet research and genealogy software. Space is limited; call the COA to sign up.
Panel discussion on prescription medications
The COA will present a free panel discussion on the costs of prescription medications Wednesday, May 13, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Hildreth House.
Talk on legal affairs
Elder law attorney Cathleen Summers will give a presentation, “Taking Control of your Future: A Legal Checkup,” Wednesday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at Hildreth House. Topics covered will include veterans’ benefits, protecting your home and assets, reverse mortgages, and more. Call the COA to sign up.
On the road with the COA
Call the Council on Aging office at 978-456-4120 to sign up for any of these trips:
- Wednesday, May 27: The COA is organizing a trip to visit the USS Constitution at the Charlestown Navy Yard. In addition to boarding and touring the historic Old Ironsides, the group will visit the associated museum and will view the 14-screen multimedia presentation, Whites of Their Eyes. Departure from Hildreth House is 8 a.m., with a return by 4:30 p.m. Cost is $10 plus lunch.
- Thursday, June 4: The COA is planning a trip to the Concord Museum for a guided tour of American presidential china. The exhibit showcases more than 100 pieces of porcelain used by presidents from George Washington to Ronald Reagan. Later, the group will stop for lunch at the Northeastern Correctional Facility in Concord, at a cost of no more than $2.50. The trip will start from Hildreth house at 9:30 a.m. and will end back there by 1 p.m. Cost is $13 plus lunch.
