2009 Senior Conference announced
The 29th annual Senior Conference will take place Thursday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Assabet Valley High School, 215 Fitchburg St. in Marlborough. The event, which is entirely free for seniors, features coffee and doughnuts in the morning, a hot, catered lunch, health screenings, entertainment by the Sudbury Strutters, lots of door prizes, including a Bose Wave radio, and free samples from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. On the road with the COA

- Thursday, April 23: The Concord Players has invited seniors to a dress rehearsal of To Kill a Mockingbird. The COA van will leave Hildreth House at 7:15 p.m. and return around 11 p.m. Cost is $2 for transportation and $5 admission at the door.
- Wednesday, April 29: The COA has organized a trip to WBZ and the Blue Hill Observatory and Science Center. The group will tour WBZ’s Soldiers Field Road facilities during actual programming and will later stop for lunch on the way to the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton for an opportunity to learn about meteorology, weather instruments, and more. The tour will leave from Hildreth House at 9 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. Cost is $5 plus the cost of lunch.
- Wednesday, April 29: The COA is sponsoring a trip to West Acton to see Theatre III’s spring musical, Forever Plaid, the story of four young male singers killed in a car crash in the 1950s, on their way to their first big concert. According to Theatre III’s website, “Through the powers of harmony and the expanding holes in the ozone layer … they are allowed to come back to perform the show they never got to do in life”—a show filled with nostalgic pop hits of the 1950s. The COA van will leave Hildreth House at 7 p.m. Cost is $2.
- Monday, May 11: The COA is planning a trip to Patriot Place, which is adjacent to Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots. There are major fashion retailers, eateries, and a modern sports museum that takes guests through Patriots football history in a cutting-edge way. The group will leave Hildreth House at 9 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. Cost is $5, with lunch on your own. For those who want to visit the museum, the fee is $7, payable at the door.
- Wednesday, May 27: The COA is organizing a trip to visit the USS Constitution at the Charlestown Navy Yard. In addition to boarding and touring the historic “Old Ironsides,” the group will visit the associated museum and will view the 14-screen multimedia presentation Whites of Their Eyes. Departure from Hildreth House is 8 a.m., with a return by 4:30 p.m. Cost is $10 plus lunch.
