Memorial Day program announced
Harvard’s Memorial Day exercises will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, May 25, to honor those who gave their lives in defense of the United States. Armed Services veterans and all others participating in the parade are asked to line up in front of Town Hall at 9:45 a.m. Acceptable dress includes uniforms or appropriate civilian attire. The parade will proceed from Town Hall to the cemetery in the center of town, where a wreath will be placed at the flagpole and “Taps” will be played. The parade will go on to the Civil War Memorial; to the monument to the fallen soldiers of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War; and then to the World War I Memorial and flagpole, after which it will return to Town Hall. From there, people can continue by car to the Still River Memorial and then on to the Bellevue Cemetery for the playing of “Taps” and the placing of another wreath. Scouts and children in attendance may assist in placing provided potted geraniums at each veteran’s resting-place.
Parade organizers welcome the participation of all levels of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Police and Fire departments, the town band, and anyone else who would like to take part.
