Oliver and Peter Taylor, sons of Lamia and Mike Taylor of Babbitt Lane, were among those recognized at Lawrence Academy’s recent banquet celebrating the achievements of varsity athletes during the fall term. They both played on a football team that entered the last game of the season with a 7–0 record, losing its final contest to another undefeated squad from Buckingham Browne & Nichols, 20–13. The team routinely overpowered opponents, scoring an average of 33.6 points per game for a season total of 269. An attack-style defense allowed the competition an average of only 8.4 points per game for a total of 67.
Ollie, who has repeatedly earned recognition for his performance as a receiver, running back, and defensive player, has committed to play football next year for the Division I Syracuse Orange. A senior co-captain, he was named the team’s MVP and earned both All-League honors from the Independent School League (ISL) and First Team All-New England. The ISL recognized Ollie twice previously for his play on the team, with honorable mention in 2006 and All-ISL in 2007. He also plays varsity basketball and earned a place on the high honor roll for his achievements in academics during the fall term.
Peter, a sophomore running back and defensive end, earned honorable mention from the ISL. In his first year on the team, he also impressed with an enthusiasm that earned him the school’s first Frattaroli Award, which was established in memory of a member of the team who was lost to a car accident early in the fall season. The award recognizes that new team member who exhibits the attributes that Mark Frattaroli brought to the team in his short time at the school—“a can-do spirit, quiet determination, and commitment to the highest standards and sportsmanship.” Peter also maintains a place on the school’s academic honor roll.
