Saturday, after winning the State Division IV Indoor Track Championships, the Bromfield girls track team returned to Harvard to a fire-engine escort to celebrate its accomplishment.
For the girls, who had won three straight Division IV titles, expectations were high as they lit up the track at the championship meet held at the Reggie Lewis Center. And they didn’t come home disappointed.
Bromfield collected 46 points to edge Pembroke (43.5) for the title.
With Bromfield down by a handful of points heading into the meet’s last event, the 4×400 relay team, made up of seniors Lexi Daniells and Katherine Finnegan and sophomores Kim West and Mimi Narbonne, sealed the overall victory with a winning time of 4 minutes 11.33 seconds.
Helping Bromfield earn its fourth consecutive title were victories by Finnegan in the 300 and senior Emily Jones in the 2-mile. Jones, a three-time state champion in cross country, turned out the nation’s fastest time of the season with a 10:32.14, finishing more than a minute in front of her closest competitor. Still, she fell short of the meet record—which she set last year—by less than a half-second. Finnegan’s winning 300-meter time was 41.51.
The girls also scored a second-place finish in the 4×800, fielding a team of Lisa Reedich, Sydney Durand, Alyssa Swindells, and Emily Jones with a time of 10:03.98. A third-place finish by sophomore Mimi Narbonne in the 600 and a fifth-place finish by senior Lisa Reedich contributed to the win.
Also competing at the meet were senior Kristina Kronauer and freshman Alyssa Swindells in the 2-mile, sophomores Emma Rothkopf and Sidney Durand in the mile, Margaret Kibbler in the 1,000-meter, and Kim West and Julia Alexander in the 600-meter.
