Longtime Harvard police officer Bill Castro has been invited to preside as a judge for the American Collegiate Moot Court Association’s Eastern Regional Qualifying Tournament being held at Fitchburg State College Nov. 21 and 22.
Moot Court simulates a legal argument before hypothetical appellate courts. This year’s subject matter for argument will include First Amendment and procedural due process issues. Some of the teams expected to compete are Bentley College, State University of New York, Fitchburg State, Patrick Henry, and St. John’s University.
The top 64 teams from six regional qualifying tournaments will advance to the national tournament finals being held at the Chapman University School of Law in Orange County, Calif. in January.
In addition to being a Harvard officer, Bill is a a lawyer, and an adjunct professor at Becker College within the Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Department teaching forensic science and the collection and preservation of evidence. He also assists Bromfield School teachers with their forensic science and criminal law programs.
