With all due respect to Christopher Tracey, regarding his letter to the editor in the Sept. 5 issue of the Press, since when are we in the business of providing smooth roadways for out-of-town bikers who come here from Cambridge or Arlington to enjoy the scenery on Saturdays and Sundays? Or any other bikers? Roadways are for cars and trucks last time I checked. In this economy, the comfort of these out-of-town bikers is not high on my priority list.
On the other hand, Mr. Hawksley, a Harvard taxpayer, has a legitimate beef. We all can sympathize with his laments over the dings in his various vehicles and with the heart-stopping feeling of a near miss. However, neither of these complaints is enough reason for elected officials not to make fiscally responsible decisions with our money. If safety measures were insufficient, that’s one thing. If residents were inconvenienced for a period of time, that’s another story.
