With all due respect to Rich Nota, director of the Public Works Department, for the effort that he has put into a “roadway maintenance plan” for the town’s roadways and the Board of Selectmen for endorsing it, did anyone take into consideration the impact to the “human use” of Stow and Bolton roads before the “fresh oil and stone” went down? Given the number of cyclists that enjoy our beautiful roads and surrounding scenery, it is incomprehensible how anyone could safely ride a street bike on this type of surface. Maybe in time it will be tolerable. How much did we save financially versus how much did we give up on uses other than vehicular? I would strongly encourage Mr. Nota and the Board of Selectmen to take a deeper look at the overall impact of future maintenance decisions. We need to remember that vehicles are not the only reason that we have roadways.
