Harvard is fortunate to have a wide array of volunteer groups through which residents can share their many talents with friends and neighbors. Whether focused on athletics, community service, arts and culture, or civic activities, these groups play an important role in making Harvard an engaging, vibrant community. I am writing to share with readers that one of these groups, Harvard Pro Musica (www.harvardpromusica.org), Harvard’s classical, community chorus, marks its 40th anniversary in 2008–2009 and invites all community members to participate in this milestone season.
For those interested in singing, open rehearsals are held every Tuesday, starting Sept. 9, from 7:30 to 9:45 p.m. at the Unitarian church. All voice parts are welcome (although we are especially in need of tenors and basses); no audition required. In addition to singers, the chorus is also in need of program designers, marketing and outreach assistance, and other organizational support roles, so if your talents lie in these areas, we invite you to become part of the chorus. All ages are welcome, including Bromfield students interested either in singing or in community service projects. Finally, in addition to the ongoing, generous support of many local businesses, we are always grateful to all of our audience members. Attending our concerts is one of the best ways to support the chorus and, particularly in this special anniversary season, we hope to see many of our fellow residents in the audience in December and May.
There are so many opportunities to give back to our town, each one of them contributing something important to the life of our community. We hope residents will consider making music one of them this year and join Harvard Pro Musica in its 40th anniversary season.
