Loaves & Fishes seeks food donations

September 12, 2008

It’s been a long, hard summer for many people—escalating gas and food prices, job uncertainty, and children home from school (and no school lunches). Even now that school has started up, many of the families who come to Loaves & Fishes are in need of more help. We’re working harder than ever to keep our shelves filled with food, in the face of a demand that’s already up more than 25 percent since the same time last year. Specifically, we need cereal, canned meats, pasta, pasta sauces, “Helpers” (such as Hamburger Helper or Chicken Helper), rice and side dishes, jelly, and 100-percent fruit juices. Please help us out. You can bring your donations to Donelan’s supermarkets in Groton or Littleton, Shaw’s in Groton, many churches and banks in the area, or you can bring them directly to Loaves & Fishes. (If you’re really ambitious, why not organize a food drive in your neighborhood or company? Just contact our food drives committee at drives@devenspantry.org for guidelines.) For more information, a list of drop-off locations, and directions to the pantry, call Loaves & Fishes at 978-772-4627, or visit our website at www.devenspantry.org.
