Tuesday, August 12: Someone stopped at the station at 11:43 a.m. to turn in a pink Motorola cell phone that was found on Stow Road. It is still at the station. A caller on Whitney Road reported at 5:19 p.m. that a tree had fallen into her house and she could smell smoke. Fire Chief Bob Mignard said that fire officers responded and discovered that lightning had hit two “enormous” pine trees near the house, blowing the top off one and a large branch off another. The branch struck the roof of the house, creating several holes in it, and hit de-icing cables, causing a circuit breaker to “explode.” No flames were ignited, but fire personnel stayed on the scene to clear wood debris off the roof and patch the holes. Mignard said that his department had responded to at least a dozen lightning-related calls in six days, receiving four at once on one day alone. At 5:50 p.m. police went to the aid of a woman on Littleton County Road who requested assistance in shutting off a generator. A caller on Sherry Road reported at 8:53 p.m. that someone was committing fraud using the address and contact information he had placed in an ad on Craigslist. The case is under investigation.
Wednesday, August 13: At 1:15 p.m. a resident on Old Littleton Road called to report that she had returned home to find that a slider door had been smashed and there were items missing. Police are investigating. Someone stopped at the station at 2:19 p.m. to drop off some Toyota car keys found near the intersection of Mass. Ave. and Slough Road. The keys are still at the station. At 6:48 p.m. AAA called to report a single-car accident on Stow Road. There were no injuries reported, but the car sustained more than $1,000 in damage and was towed. A resident on Simon Atherton Row called at 7:28 p.m. to report a paint ball match in progress in the woods behind his house. Subjects were gone when police arrived.
Thursday, August 14: At 9 a.m. a woman on East Bare Hill Road was transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center with Advanced Life Support on board. A caller on Pond Road reported at 12:38 p.m. that a tree in a neighbor’s yard had been uprooted and had pulled the electrical service off the house. The neighbors weren’t home, but police notified National Grid. At 2:09 p.m. a caller on Littleton Road requested assistance in turning off a microwave oven, saying that she could still hear it running even when the oven door was open. The officer who responded found it was the fan on the stove making the sound that was mistaken for the microwave, and shut it off.
Friday, August 15: A caller on Granite View Drive reported at 15 minutes past midnight that a vehicle had been sitting at the end of the road for about 10 minutes, then left, headed toward Littleton. The caller was unable to provide a plate number. The responding officer subsequently found a number of “for sale” signs in the roadway nearby. The car was not found. A caller on Depot Road reported a larceny at 12:49 p.m. No other information was available at press time. At 5:32 p.m. a caller on Brown Road reported that a tree had fallen in the driveway, taking electrical lines with it. National Grid was notified. The Harvard ambulance responded to the scene of an accident on Main Street in Bolton at 6:29 p.m., at the request of Bolton police. A caller on Old Shirley Road reported at 9 p.m. that some people in a white stretch limosine had dumped beer cans in his yard and had then made a U-turn and headed toward Ayer. Responding officers found the cans, but not the limo. A tree was reported down on Cruft Lane at 9:51 p.m. Police asked the Department of Public Works to remove the debris.
Saturday, August 16: A caller on Babbitt Lane reported at 2:30 p.m. that an exterior electrical outlet appeared to be smoking. Fire officers responded and checked it with a thermal imaging camera; it checked out OK. A patient was transported to Emerson Hospital from a Brown Road address at 4:48 p.m. At 9:26 p.m. a caller on Old Shirley Road reported hearing the sound of gunshots coming from behind the house. Police found kids with fireworks nearby, escorted them home, and spoke with their parents, who assured officers that they were done for the night. A caller on Murray Lane reported hearing loud yelling and screaming nearby, possibly from a loud party. Police found the partyers, who said they’d quiet down. A man on Stow Road reported that his “caution children” sign was missing, and had possibly been missing for up to 25 hours.
Sunday, August 17: A man called the station at 9 minutes past midnight to report that there was string across the road near Bromfield House. A police officer found the string and removed it. While on patrol at 1:32 p.m., Officer Danielle Fortunato found two teenagers riding bicycles on Bolton Road, and due to the late hour, escorted them home. At 2:06 a.m. Fortunato stopped a car she had observed being driven erratically on Old Littleton Road. She arrested Kerri A. Leo, 30, of Chelmsford, for operating under the influence, and took her passenger into protective custody. The car was towed; Leo was later released on bail. A caller on Stow Road requested medical attention at 1:29 p.m. for her teenage daughter, who had fallen off a skateboard and sustained a serious cut, abrasions, and a possible head injury. The ambulance squad requested Life Flight transport to UMass Medical Center, due to the possible head injury, and fire personnel responded to stand by until the helicopter had cleared the area. At 2:10 p.m. a caller on Depot Road reported a tree down. Fire personnel, who were in the area due to the Life Flight call, assisted in removal of the tree. A caller on Old Littleton Road reported that motorcycles were racing on the road at 2:39 p.m. The cycles were gone when police arrived. A downed tree was reported on Ayer Road at 6:41 p.m., along with wires that responding officers determined were telecommunications lines. Charter and Verizon were notified. At 6:47 p.m. police received a report of a green SUV being driven erratically, with screeching tires, on Woodchuck Hill Road, although the caller could not provide a plate number. The SUV was gone when police arrived. Someone called at 9:26 p.m. to request that officers check out a person on a bike at the Route 2 overpass, who was “just sitting there.” The bike was gone when police arrived. A man was transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center from a Stow Road address at 9:39 p.m.
Monday, August 18: A teenage girl reported missing from a Still River Road location at 9:11 a.m. was later found. A close encounter between a car and a deer on Mass Ave. reported at 4:02 p.m. resulted in no damage to the car and not enough damage to the deer to keep it from running into the woods. Minor vehicle damage was reported at 4:34 p.m., when the vehicle’s brakes failed and it went off the road. The car was towed by AAA.
