According to MassDevelopment land use director Peter Lowitt, MassDev is looking at how it can update housing regulations for Devens to make them greener.
“We want to be proactive and make sure that whatever housing gets built on Devens is the greenest housing in the commonwealth,” he told the Press this week. “Whatever legacy we leave [on Devens], we want it to be a green one,” he added.
To that end, the Devens Enterprise Commission is recruiting a representative from each of the towns of Ayer, Harvard, and Shirley, as well as Devens, to serve on a Green Housing Steering Committee. Lowitt said the committee is expected to meet about four times over the summer and into early fall, and will advise and provide input to the DEC and MassDevelopment as they work to update housing regulations to include sustainable building practices. The work of the committee is expected to be wrapped up by mid-fall, he said.
