For the second time in less than two months, vandals struck at the Shaker Hills golf course. Police responded to a call Sunday, May 25, just before 6 a.m., reporting damage to golf carts, a storage shed, and the golf course.
Sergeant Jim Babu said that 12 golf carts had been removed from a secure location on the grounds of the course. A window in the secured shed had been broken, and the keys to the carts stolen. Some of the carts were damaged—two to the tune of more than $3,000. Four of the carts were located near the ninth hole on the green, where they had been used to inflict more than $1,000 in damage to the green. Babu reported that police did obtain some evidence at the scene; a joint investigation with Ayer police is underway.
In April a similar incident occurred, where stolen golf carts were used in causing an estimated $1,500 in damage to the green.
Tracking street signs
On Wednesday a caller reported finding 10 Harvard street signs on the ground near the track on Lancaster County Road. Police responded and found 16 signs.
Sergeant Babu said, “Kids think this is a big joke. But with 16 signs, this is 16 counts of vandalism, and that’s a felony.”
He said that Sergeant John Coates is investigating.
