Master craftsman, father of Harvard man
Jerome Francis Rooney, age 83, of Tuftonboro, N.H., and formerly of Littleton, passed away April 6, 2008.
Jerry was a talented artist and began his career lettering vehicles and furniture. He eventually owned his own business, The Country Craftsman, specializing in early American furniture and spinning wheels. Jerry became a skilled furniture craftsman and was best known for his beautiful handmade Windsor chairs. In his later years, he turned his attention to restoring everything from antique furniture to century-old steam pumper fire engines. His home was always a hub for clients, friends, and family, who all alike enjoyed standing in the warmth of his woodstove while hearing about his newest projects.
Born in Woburn on July 27, 1924, he was the son of the late William S. and Luella (Hall) Rooney. He grew up in Wilmington, where he attended public school. He joined the Army at the age of 18 and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was happily married to his wife Marion R. (Wyman) Rooney for almost 59 years.
Besides his wife, Jerry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Steven and Linda Rooney of Littleton and their children Michael, Kristen and Mark; his son George Rooney of Pepperell and his children Jennifer, Laura, and George; and his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Renate Rooney of Harvard and their daughter Meghan. He also leaves two great-grandchildren: Samantha, the daughter of his granddaughter Jennifer and her husband Jeff DiFonte; and Cole, the son of his granddaughter Laura and her husband Nicholas Murray.
A funeral and Mass of Christian Burial were held Friday, April 11, at St. Anne’s Church in Littleton. Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery in Littleton.
