Over four evenings earlier this month, I participated in a Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) course taught by Harvard police officers Daniele Paganelli and Kimberly Murphy (with help from several male officers from other towns). This nationally known course is taught by members of police departments to women in cities and towns across the country. Officers Murphy and Paganelli teach R.A.D. in Harvard twice a year. When I signed up I expected the course to be worthwhile, but was surprised to find just how useful and relevant it actually was. I strongly recommend this course for all women. It is absolutely worth the time and effort required. In addition to the invaluable benefits of learning important safety techniques, the course provides a positive opportunity to get to know some of Harvard’s police officers as well as other women in town. Many thanks to all of the officers involved and to the Harvard Police Department for providing this enjoyable and very worthwhile opportunity.
