The lights were shining bright recently on four nights at Volunteers Hall. Once again we were reminded what a terrific resource the Harvard Public Library is for bringing high quality cultural events to our little town. We would like to thank the many volunteers who made the Harvard Friends of the Arts production of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters a resounding success. Over 120 people saw four casts play the funny, poignant, and endearing characters of Andy and Melissa.
Thanks to Bob Eiland for directing, playing Andy, and generally leading the effort. Also to our casts who put in many hours preparing for the show: Davida Bagatelle, Martha Brooks, Tim Clark, Pam Hill, Michael McGarty, Terry Symula, and Doc Westerling. So much talent in our community! There were others who worked behind the scenes as well: Faith Cross, Sharlotte Eiland, Joan Eliyesil, Marty Green, Paul Green, Di Hall, Larry Hill, Ken Nygren, and Judy Wong. Thank you all!
We would also like to thank the Harvard Cultural Council, which made a grant to make this production possible. As always, we could not have done it without the support of the library staff and trustees. We also thank our sponsors who gave generously to help defray production costs.
The mission of the Friends of the Arts is to encourage, stimulate, and promote high quality, diverse professional and amateur creative talents that will enhance the quality of life of our community.
Our next event will be a workshop and concert performed by world-class fiddler and step dancer April Verch. This program will be offered free of charge Sunday, April 20, in Volunteers Hall.
