The Pond Committee is seeking a leader or leaders for the annual water chestnut weed-pull program. Rick Dickson offered his time over the past several years, leading four weed pulls in June and July. This year he will be focusing on operating the harvester, and the committee now needs a new leader or team of leaders. Rick’s efforts have been very successful, helping to ensure that water chestnut, a high-growth invasive species, is contained in a very small area of wetlands. Thanks to all, there are many volunteers who participate, but without a leader, we cannot continue this very successful program.
This would be a great volunteer opportunity for a team of high school seniors as a community project and could become a traditional activity in years to come. The pond committee is also willing to finance part of the leadership role by funding a senior citizen tax-abatement position to either take on the leadership or work with the volunteer high school seniors.
