U.S. Army Spc. Jon Farwell was wounded in Afghanistan in late December. Farwell’s mother and stepfather are Bowers Road residents Laura Farwell and Michael Blake.

Laura Farwell told the Press that her son, a paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Division, was wounded in an IED incident in the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan on Dec. 27. His unit, based in Vicenza, Italy, has been deployed to Afghanistan since spring of 2007 and is expected to be there until late August this year.

At the Jan. 9 meeting of the Board of Selectmen, Selectman Bob Eubank said he was “happy to report that Jon’s injuries are not life-threatening and that he is expected to recover.” Eubank added that Farwell has also expressed an interest in returning to his unit in Afghanistan.

Laura Farwell is currently with her son in Texas, where he is undergoing treatment at the Brooke Army Medical Center burn unit in San Antonio.
