Wednesday, December 5: Police responded to an accident at Ayer and Poor Farm roads reported at 10:45 a.m., when a car stopped at the stop sign there was hit by a runaway wheel off a tractor trailer from Connecticut. The car was towed; state police sent a truck team to the scene. There were no injuries, and the police report did not mention whether any citations were issued. A caller reported at 3:02 p.m. that his vehicle had apparently been struck in a local parking lot. Because damage was estimated at less than $1,000, no crash report was required. At 6:29 p.m. police responded to a fire alarm at Bromfield and found that someone had pulled the alarm. The superintendent was notified. Police went to Old Shirley Road to investigate a report received at 9:33 p.m., about people jumping in and out of a car. The vehicle had left the area by the time police arrived; no contact was made.
Thursday, December 6: A caller reported at 7:04 p.m. that a white van with a temporary Federal Express plate had been driving slowly alongside his son, who was walking home on Deerfoot Trail. Police stopped the vehicle at 7:40 p.m. in the vicinity of East Bare Hill and Partridge Hill roads, and found that the driver, Jaurez D. Barboza, 51, of Framingham, had been driving with a suspended license. The vehicle was towed; Barboza was issued a summons for operating after suspension of a license and operating without a license. At 7:33 p.m. police responded to a call from Dunkin’ Donuts, where the store manager was engaged in a verbal dispute with an ex-employee regarding uniforms and a paycheck. Police advised the manager the dispute was a civil matter. After stopping a vehicle on Ayer Road for a traffic violation at 8:31 p.m., police found that the driver was operating with a revoked registration. The vehicle was towed and a summons issued to the driver for operating without a registration and operating an uninsured vehicle.
Friday, December 7: At 2:15 a.m. Officer Pelley of the Boxborough Police Department called the Harvard station and notified Officer Babu that he was following a car into Harvard that was weaving back and forth across the center line. Babu advised Pelley to stop the vehicle and also responded to the incident. The driver of the vehicle was found to have been dozing off at the wheel. No further information was available in the police report.
Saturday, December 8: Police received a call at 6:04 p.m. about a large deer on the side of the road at Still River and Prospect Hill roads, and referred the matter to the animal control officer.
Sunday, December 9: At 22 minutes past midnight an Ayer couple arrived at the station engaged in a domestic dispute. The woman reported that the man had assaulted her at a restaurant in Leominster and had attempted to assault her in the car while she was driving. The incident caused her to lose control of the car on the Route 2 off ramp in Harvard and hit the guard rail, spinning the car into the direction of oncoming traffic. Officers took the man into protective custody and advised the woman of her right to an emergency restraining order, which she refused. She also declined the officer’s suggestion that she file assault charges against the man with the Leominster police. Harvard police issued the woman a warning for failure to use care and caution when stopping and for driving in the wrong direction on the road. At 11:35 a.m. Boxborough police called the station to ask Harvard police to check a residence on Lancaster County Road for a person who was wanted for questioning at the Boxborough station. No contact was made with the person in question. Stow police called the Harvard station at 3:35 p.m. to report that a car had been broken into in the Finn Road parking lot of the Delaney Project. Detective Izzo said this is the third such incident reported in that area in the past month. Police are investigating. Police found a black Nintendo DS on the Common at 6:19 p.m. A caller looking for the lost gadget correctly identified the item; it was later released to her. At 6:42 p.m. someone turned in a lipstick case also found on the Common; it has not yet been claimed.
Monday, December 10: Icy road conditions caused a Clinton man to lose control of his Ford Bronco at 6:17 a.m., when it slid into a mailbox on Prospect Hill Road. There was some damage to the mailbox, but no crash report was filed, as estimated damage was less than $1,000. A caller reported at 10:48 a.m. that his vehicle had struck another in a driveway on Littleton Road, but damage was less than $1,000. At 1:59 p.m. the Harvard ambulance transported a man from Ayer Road to Leominster Hospital, and at 4:40 p.m. transported a woman from Fairbank Street to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. A caller reported at 10:01 p.m. that a car parked on Fairbank Street had left its trunk open. The vehicle was gone when police checked the area.
