I would like to express my strong support for Niki Tsongas for U.S. Congress, and I urge voters of Harvard to cast their votes for Niki Tuesday, October 16.
Over the past nine months I have had the opportunity to get to know Niki well, during the time that we were both competing to represent the Fifth District. Niki is someone who is committed to ending the war in Iraq, expanding access to health care for children, and restoring our country’s proud tradition of protecting civil liberties. She is also someone intimately familiar with all parts of the Fifth District, including the smaller communities in the southern part of the district. One of the things that impressed me about her campaign is how she had volunteers in each of the 29 communities of the district, working hard to get out her message of creating change in Washington, D.C.
If there is a value that I have seen in Niki that contrasts significantly with her Republican opponent, it’s about hope. We are at a time in our country’s history where the Bush Administration has fostered a culture of fear among its citizenry and has caused great damage to the federal programs that help protect our freedoms and our great quality of life. Niki Tsongas is a profoundly hopeful person, and her strong stands on ending the use of torture in the fight against terrorism, increasing federal spending on education aid, and her vision of creating economic development for all of the people of the Fifth District is exactly what the people of Massachusetts need, as well as this country. I hope you will join me in voting for Niki Tsongas on October 16th.
