Cooking enthusiast, mother of Harvard resident
Vernabelle F. Sanders, 92, a longtime resident of Marlow, New Hampshire, died Tuesday, July 24, at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, Vermont, after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Sanders was born October 30, 1914, in Keene, the daughter of Dana and Ora (McIntyre) Winham. She graduated from Keene High School in 1933 and lived most of her life in Marlow until moving to White River Junction in 2004. She married George N. Sanders on December 24, 1947.
Mrs. Sanders had been a member of the Marlow United Methodist Church, the Church Women’s Society, the Marlow Historical Society, and the Marlow Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She was a longtime member of the Golden Rule Rebekah Lodge in Marlow and the Harmony Rebekah Lodge of Marlborough. She joined the Rebekahs in 1932.
In addition to raising her family, she was employed by the Marlow Mill and Stone Bridge Press as a secretary. She was very active and had a love for cooking and feeding her family and friends.
Mrs. Sanders is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Moe Dancause of Harvard; her son George N. Sanders, Jr. of Sunapee; her grandchildren, Keven and Michelle Dancause of Harvard and Scott and Eric Sanders; her nephew, Donald Winham of Temple City, California; her nieces, Nancy Fifeld of Keene, and Lucille Blanchard of New Smyrna, Florida. Her husband, George N. Sanders, Sr., died in 1996. Her brother, Ralph Winham; her sister Amy Winham Corey; and her nephew, Dana Winham, predecease her.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sanders were held Tuesday, July 31, at the Methodist Church in Marlow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Forest Lodge, Number 69 Marlow, in care of Joseph Baril, Route 10, Marlow, NH 03456, or the Normand R. Gaumond Memorial Award Fund, St. Theresa Church, P.O. Box 746, in Harvard.
