The driver of a Federal Express truck found a roll of wire belonging to the Verizon company and brought it to the station at 11:09 a.m. A Verizon representative retrieved the wire a short time later. The neighbor of a property for sale near West Bare Hill Road and Woodside Road reported unusual running water in the field at 2:49 p.m. Police investigating the report found that the property had recently undergone a perc test. At 7:38 p.m., police on patrol found two teenagers trespassing on the Fruitlands property, and asked them to move along. A Littleton County Road resident reported firecrackers going off at 8:34 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found several kids making a lot of noise, and gave them a warning.
Wednesday, August 29
At 1:21 a.m., police on the midnight shift noticed an amber light flashing on the back porch of a residence on Lovers Lane. After securing the property, police found nothing else out of order. A Harvard woman leaving a business in town was followed by a suspicious-acting man in a gray BMW at 2:12 p.m. While driving through Harvard, she called dispatch on her cell phone to report the incident, and proceeded to the police station. Officer Murphy stopped the driver, a man from Hudson, on Ayer Road. No citations were issued, but the incident was reported to police in Hudson. Police conducting a routine building check at the elementary school found an open door in the storage area at 10:55 p.m. Police secured the building, and closed the window.
Thursday, August 30
A brush fire near a pond on Littleton County Road was reported at 10:50 a.m. The fire department was able to extinguish the blaze.
Friday, August 31
John Kamau, 35, of Lowell, was stopped for driving with a suspended license on Fairbank Street at 12:01 a.m. Police running a check found a warrant for his arrest, and took him into custody. His car was towed from the scene. A high school girl playing field hockey at a home game at Bromfield took a high stick to the forehead, opening a wound, just before 4:27 p.m. The ambulance squad took her to Leominster Hospital. The victim was a member of the opposing team. A car driven on Littleton County Road struck a deer at 5:50 p.m., causing over $1,000 worth of damage to the vehicle. The deer did not sustain damage, and vanished into the woods. Harvard police helped Bolton police disperse a house party in that town at 11:58 p.m.
Saturday, September 1
The ambulance team took an Ayer Road woman to Emerson Hospital at 12:27 a.m. Police assisted the public with the traffic and general merrymaking at the farmers’ market at 11 a.m. An East Bare Hill Road woman went to Beth Israel Hospital by ambulance at 5:53 p.m. Police conducting building checks at 9:05 p.m. noticed an open window at the elementary school, and contacted the head custodian for help.
Sunday, September 2
The ambulance team took an Ayer Road woman to Nashoba Valley Medical Center at 8:14 p.m. A report of gunshots in the neighborhood of Warren Avenue and Tahanto Trail came in to dispatch at 8:15 p.m. Police suspected fireworks, but did not find any suspicious activity in the area.
Monday, September 3
A caller from an apartment complex on Ayer Road called police to report finding a skinned animal on the bush outside her living room window at 9:03 a.m. The hide, which turned out to be a rabbit skin purchased from a store, was retrieved by the animal control officer. A Candleberry Lane resident called to report a damaged mailbox at 10:37 a.m. Officer Murphy investigated the complaint, and found the remnant of a headlight windshield wiper at the scene. While patrolling at the pond a short time later, she noted a white Volvo in the beach parking lot missing part of a headlight windshield wiper. After running the license plate, Murphy determined the driver of the Volvo was the teenaged neighbor of the resident with the damaged mailbox, and brokered a deal for restitution. A report of a brush fire on Bolton Road came in to dispatch at 12:30 p.m. Police found several young boys playing with fireworks in the area. The fire was extinguished, but the matter is still under investigation, Murphy noted.
