The Nashua River Watershed Association (NRWA) invites townspeople to a presentation by Dave Jacke called “Introduction to Permaculture” Tuesday, June 5, at 7 p.m. at the NRWA River Resource Center, 592 Main Street (Route 119), Groton. Permaculture is a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to create sustainable human communities by studying and duplicating successful patterns found in nature.
Jacke will discuss ethics, principles, and practical examples of how humans can mimic ecosystem structure and function in human cultures and landscapes, and attempt to destroy the illusion that our species is separate from nature. These ideas apply in urban, rural, and suburban environments, as well as in the social world and our “inner landscapes.” He is an engaging and passionate teacher of ecological design and permaculture and a meticulous designer. He is the primary author of the award-winning two-volume tome, Edible Forest Gardens, and a longtime student and practitioner of ecological design. He has consulted on, designed, built, and planted landscapes, homes, farms, and communities in the United States and overseas. A cofounder of Land Trust at Gap Mountain in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, he homesteaded there for a number of years.
