Wellness program gets better

May 25, 2007

As part of the Harvard public schools health curriculum, seventh- and eighth-graders recently participated in wellness programs, which focus primarily on fostering better communication between students, parents, and teachers. For the seventh grade, this was the second year the program was offered off-site, away from the school day environment. This year we thank the Congregational, Unitarian, and St. Theresa’s Catholic churches for donating classroom space to make this happen. We would also like to thank the Harvard PTA for its financial support; Mina Levitsky, Jayne Rowe, Mary Zadroga, and Lesley Fields for their on-site logistical support; and Tracey Mohr for her behind-the-scene efforts. For the eighth grade, the program was conducted during the school day, using the time set aside for such health programs. Without the financial support of the Harvard Schools Trust, Harvard Lions Club, Emerson Hospital, and Nashoba Valley Medical Center we would not be able to conduct the programs with experts who bring new perspectives on how to keep lines of communication open during adolescent years. These programs, long part of the school health curriculum, have been missing from Bromfield for many years due to lack of financial resources. It is the generosity of these other institutions that made this possible. We can’t thank everyone enough.
