The Bromfield varsity baseball Trojans took on the Stags of Tahanto Regional High School, and won by a score of 10–6 at their home opener at the Pond Road field Monday after a rainout last Friday. The team record for the season is now two wins and two losses. Senior Joe D’Eramo started the game from the mound and earned five strikeouts.
At the top of the first, Bromfield earned five runs. Junior Nick Kimball led off with a single followed by a double from senior Tim Smetana. Senior Joseph Galeski followed with a single of his own, which brought Kimball home. Eramo came up in the cleanup spot and hit a double that scored the Trojans’ second run. Galeski then scored on a passed ball from the Tahanto pitcher. Junior James Jarvis came up in the seventh spot in the batting order and crushed a triple that scored the fourth run of the inning. Finally, Jarvis scored on another passed ball.
The bottom of the second inning saw more success for the Trojans. Sophomore Caleb Frost reached first on a bunt. He eventually stole around the bases and scored. After Smetana singled and Galeski reached base on an error by the third baseman, D’Eramo grounded out to the shortstop, but drove a run in to score. The Trojans finished the second inning with a lead of eight runs.

During the third inning, Smetana hit another single and was driven in to score by a Galeski triple. Tahanto was able to get four runners across the plate during the middle innings, but it wasn’t enough to catch Bromfield. The Trojans added an insurance run in the fifth inning when a sacrifice fly by Galeski scored Frost from third base. In D’Eramo’s five innings, he gave up four runs and struck out five batters. Smetana relieved him for the final two frames, giving up two runs and striking out two more.
About their offensive power, Smetana commented, “We hit the ball really well up and down the lineup and we had some strong contributions from the bench.” When asked about the impact of the win, Smetana said, “I think winning our home opener gives our team a lot of momentum and confidence to take into the next couple games.” The Trojans will host Maynard High School Friday, May 4
