Starting its season last Friday, March 30, the Bromfield girls tennis team had high hopes for its match against the Rangers of Westborough High School. The season opener did not go the Trojans’ way, though, and the Rangers won the match 5–0.
Bromfield sophomore Jacqui Holmes played first singles and lost her sets 3–6 and 4–6. Playing second singles was junior Ellery Yahia. She won three games in her first set and one in the second during the two-set loss. Freshman Elizabeth Stone played third singles after short notice. The freshman lost 0–6, 3–6.
The Trojan women doubles matches were the closest of the day. The first pairing, senior captains Courtney Kenyon and Kara Lambert, lost 3–6 in the first set. The second set remained close throughout its duration, before the duo lost in a tiebreaker. Bromfield’s second doubles team was made up of two sophomores, Emily Egan and Caroline Korstvedt. They lost the first set 6–7 in a tiebreaker, but went on to win the second set 6–1. Unfortunately, the pair couldn’t keep up their momentum and lost 3–6 in the third set.
Next week the girls will travel to Oakmont Regional High School Monday, April 9, and Clinton High School Wednesday, April 11. They will host Hopedale High School Friday, April 13.
