The Bromfield boys tennis team was swept by the division-one team from Westborough High School last Friday, March 30, in a rout that left the team winless, but wiser. Bromfield hosted the Westborough Rangers, a team Coach Joe Feintuck said has “talent and depth across the board.”
The singles positions were played by three seniors. Drew Tracey, first singles, lost his sets 3–6 and 2–6. Evan Clark, second singles, lost both sets 2–6. Finally, Pat Coffey, third singles, lost 1–6 and 2–6. “All in all, the singles players played well,” Feintuck said, adding, “It’s the little things that can [save] the game or [give] up a break point.”
Playing first doubles for the Trojans were junior Kyle Wahlberg and sophomore Keiron Stoddart. The pair lost 0–6 in the first set, but improved in the second set to win three games. Finally, playing second doubles were senior Keeon Tabrizi, battling a hand injury, and freshman Ethan Randall. They lost 1–6 and 1–6. According to Feintuck, both doubles teams also played well, considering the tough competition. The team got some solid playing experience under its belt, Feintuck said.
The boys will host Lunenburg High School Monday, April 9, followed by Hudson High School Wednesday, April 11. They will wrap up the week Friday, April 13, with a visit to Hopedale High School.
