At 11:30 a.m., a contractor called police about a possible hostage situation at a home on Littleton Road. The contractor, who had gone to the home to give a bid for some work, discovered a sign in the window that said “Help, I’m being held hostage.” Police entered the home through an unlocked front door and searched the home, but found no evidence of a hostage. When an officer reached the homeowner by phone, he said the sign was a prank on the part of his teenage son. Police responded to a civil dispute between adult siblings on Still River Road at 2:34 p.m. The matter was resolved on the premises. A Slough Road resident was transported to Emerson Hospital at 6:31 p.m. A Harvard resident called police to report loose horses on Bolton Road at 7:08 p.m. Police contacted the owner, and the wayward animals returned to their corral.
Wednesday, January 24
Westford police called the Harvard Police Department for information about a Harvard resident at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday morning. There was no other significant police activity.
Thursday, January 25
A woman from Harvard driving on Old Littleton Road swerved out of her lane and struck a rock just before 1:15 p.m. The car was towed from the scene, but she was not injured and no citations were issued. A car belonging to residents on Ann Lee’s Road caught fire in the driveway about 11:35 p.m. The Fire Department put out the fire.
Friday, January 26
A random plate-check detail set up Friday evening yielded a motor vehicle stop and summons for a driver with a revoked license at 11:35 p.m. She was issued a summons to appear in court, and her passenger took over driving the car. An ongoing domestic dispute was the subject of a call at 3 p.m. Police resolved the matter over the phone. A commercial alarm rang on Pinnacle Road at 3:24 p.m., but the alarm was false. At 11:12 p.m., Harvard police received a phone call about an unlocked gate at the Shaker Hills golf course. Police contacted a Shaker Hills employee, who came and locked the gate.
Saturday, January 27
A commercial alarm rang on Prospect Hill Road at 9:03 a.m. The alarm was false. A Babbitt Lane resident called to report a suspicious-looking minivan in the neighborhood at 8:31 p.m. The officer investigating found that the van belonged to a neighbor. Another report of another suspicious-appearing vehicle on Harris Lane came in to dispatch at 9:50 p.m., but the vehicle was gone when the officer arrived at the scene.
Sunday, January 28
Ayer police requested assistance from Harvard in handling an unruly customer at McDonald’s at 2:10 a.m. The customer left the restaurant before Harvard police arrived. At 7:59 p.m., someone called to report a water main break behind Town Hall. Dispatch contacted the highway department and asked for assistance.
Monday, January 29
Police visited a residence on Ayer Road at 11:04 a.m. to check in on someone on the so-called “RUOK” list for elderly and housebound residents. Everything was fine at the home. A residential alarm in a home on Craggs Road was called in to police at 11:42 a.m., but the alarm was false. A minor car accident was reported to dispatch at 12:19 p.m. There was no damage to the car and no personal injuries, and no report was filed. The Fire Department gave permission for a permit fire on Haskell Lane at 4:47 p.m.
