The girls varsity basketball team traveled to Shirley Monday, January 15, to take on the Parker Charter School, where they prevailed by a score of 42–37.

Bromfield jumped out to an early lead with baskets from senior Lydia Maurer and juniors Lindsey Burke and Catherine Johnson. The team then went on a scoring drought for the majority of the first half, but added jump shots from sophomore Kelly Thurston and Maurer in the closing minutes. The girls went into the locker room trailing by only one point.

Bromfield came out of halftime pressing the Parker team. The tough defense caused turnovers left and right that led to Bromfield baskets. Senior Rebecca Reusch hit two jumpers and scored a lay-up as well. Thurston also added a 15-foot jump shot from the right side.

The defense continued to halt Parker’s attempts when junior Henley Siegrist batted two passes out of bounds and caused a backcourt violation. Maurer also picked off a pass and finished on the other end of the court with two points. Parker made a comeback late in the game but was unable to defeat the Bromfield girls, who won their seventh game.

Burke finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals. Johnson, Thurston, and Reusch each added six points while Maurer had four. She also had six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Siegrist rounded out the scoring with three points. She also had two steals.
