Volunteers needed for Commission on Disability
At the Oct. 28 Special Town Meeting, the town voted to accept the provisions of Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 40, Section 8J to establish a five-member Commission on Disability. Commissions consist of no fewer than five members chosen by the Select Board. The majority must be persons with disabilities; one may be a member of the immediate family of a person with a disability; one must be an elected or appointed municipal official.

Holiday fire safety
Many holiday fires happen because decorations are placed too close to a heat source. As you deck the halls this season, be fire smart.
- Inspect holiday lights each year before you put them up. Discard light strands with frayed or pinched wires.
- Water your Christmas tree every day. A dry tree is dangerous because it can catch on fire easily.
- Consider using battery-operated flameless candles, which can look, smell, and feel like real candles.
- If you do use lit candles, make sure they are in stable holders and place them where they cannot be knocked down easily.
‘Holiday Cards
for Heroes’
Congresswoman Lori Trahan has launched the “Holiday Cards for Heroes” program. Constituents in Massachusetts’ Third Congressional District are invited to drop off holiday cards for active-duty military servicemembers at Trahan’s office, 126 John Street in Lowell, through Friday, Dec 13. Cards should be placed in envelopes but should not be sealed.
“A personal, handwritten card is a small way we can say ‘thank you’ to the Americans serving our country, offer words of encouragement, and share holiday cheer. New hours at the
Transfer Station
Hours of operation at the Transfer Station have been extended. They are now 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
