Bromfield’s boys and girls cross-country teams eclipsed runners from Tyngsborough and Littleton to win the team’s second Midland-Wachusett Division C tri-meet of the season at Tyngsborough on Oct. 1.

The boys beat Tyngsborough 16-49 and Littleton 19-41. Junior Ben McWaters won the boys race with a time of 16 minutes, 42.8 seconds.
The girls were equally dominant, leaving Littleton in the dust 18-42 and Tyngsborough 19-44. Senior Rosie Bradley won the race with a time of 19:12.7.
To determine the outcome of a cross-country race, the places of each team’s Top 5 runners are added; the sum is the team’s score for the event.
The meet was held at Tyngsboro Elementary School under sunny skies and an afternoon temperature of 70 degrees. The course consisted of 4.5 laps around flat fields with one hill.
There are seven teams in the C division of the Mid-Wach League. Given the shortness of the fall season, tri-meets ensure every team races at least once against each of its six division rivals. Bromfield’s third and final tri-meet is Oct. 15 at McCurdy Track in Harvard against Gardner and Hudson, the two schools against which it has yet to race.
In the boys race, four Bromfield racers set personal records: Junior Shea Van Cleef (16:00) and sophomores, Will Guthro (22:03.6), Duncan Charles (19:47.2) and Mathias Holzmann (20:17.9).
Six girls logged personal bests: Junior Jacquie Wilkins (21:26.3); sophomores Callia Sintros (25:17.1) and Chloé Bradley (24:17); and freshmen Gina Moussouris (23:17.7), Yana Li (23:18.2), and Lotus Simms (25:17.1).
This week, the two teams were preparing for the Oct. 11 Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational, where they will race against teams from the state’s largest schools. The annual event is scheduled to get underway at 5:30 p.m. at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds in Falmouth. Sunset is 6:06 p.m.
