Flu clinic

Nashoba Nursing Service will hold a flu clinic Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Bromfield School cafeteria. From 2 to 4 p.m. it is for seniors; from 4 to 6 it is for all ages. Bring your insurance card. Call the COA if you want to fill out the paperwork beforehand or if you need a ride.


Ham and bean grab & go

The COA will offer another grab & go meal for seniors, this time a ham and bean supper with coleslaw and cornbread. Pick up meals at Hildreth House Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. The meals are limited; sign up by noon on Oct. 9. 


Relaxation yoga

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m. via Zoom, Barbara Rich, M.Ed., will lead another free stress reduction class focusing on mindful breathing, easy stretching, and useful strategies for accepting who and where we are. Call the COA for the Zoom link.


SHINE offers health insurance advice

Medicare open enrollment is Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. This is the time to review your current health coverage, compare plans, and learn of any additional services and prescription plans. 

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, join a Zoom call with SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) to discuss the open enrollment period and what you need to do to change plans. Call the COA to sign up and receive the Zoom link for this program.


Virtual story slam

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, COA’s story slam will feature Sue Reedich with stories and photos from her experiences as a private pilot. Call to get the Zoom link. Harvard Cable TV has recorded all previous story slams. See them at harvardcabletv.com/council-on-aging.


Computer support

The COA is using phone calls and Zoom to offer computer support. Make an appointment with a description of your technical issues, and one of our computer volunteers will get back to you. There is also an online computer resource center with lots of useful information. Access it at sites.google.com/view/hcoa-lab.


Men’s and women’s coffee on the porch

Come to the Hildreth House porch to enjoy an informal gathering with friends. All are welcome. Safety guidelines must be followed. All must wear masks, use hand sanitizer, and stay 6 feet apart.

  • Men’s Coffee: Wednesdays at 9 a.m.
  • Women’s Coffee: Fridays at 10 a.m.

Online fitness classes

All fitness classes are being offered online. Call for a Zoom invitation or to learn more. 

  • Weight strengthening/aerobics: Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.
  • Line dancing: Monday, 10:15 a.m.
  • Tai chi: Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m.
  • Stretch and tone yoga: Tuesday and Friday, 9:30 a.m.

COA services during the pandemic

  • Adopt a Senior: Volunteers matched with homebound seniors for check-ins and errands. 
  • Meals on Wheels: Deliveries to those who are homebound and those who regularly have come to COA congregate meals. 
  • Outreach check-in calls: Calls to see if anything is needed, whether it’s to find a volunteer to shop, make referrals to agencies, or just to talk.
  • Van transportation: The van is available for medical and other appointments.
  • Loaves & Fishes delivery: Pick up and deliver orders from Loaves & Fishes.
