The state reported two new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Harvard this week. The town’s cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began remains is now 22. To date, the Press has verified that two residents and two residents who moved away from Harvard just before the pandemic began have died of complications from COVID-19.
Statewide, during the week between Sept. 29 and Oct. 6, confirmed cases increased by 4,116, up from the previous week’s increase of 3,377. There were 113 COVID-19-related deaths during the week ending Oct. 6, up from 92 the previous week.
Locally, at Emerson Hospital, the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients increased from four on Sept. 29 to six on Oct. 6. During that same week, the Memorial and University campuses of the UMass Medical Center in Worcester reported 25 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, the same number reported on Sept. 29.
The Bureau of Prisons website reported Oct. 6 that the number of active COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens remained at zero for the third week in a row. The number of active cases among staff remained at two. Since the COVID-19 outbreak at the medical center, 45 current inmates and six staff members have recovered. Two inmates died of complications from COVID-19.
