The state reported 3 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending on October 22. The town’s cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began is now 25. To date, the Press has verified that two residents and two residents who moved away from Harvard just before the pandemic began died of complications from COVID-19.
Statewide, during the week between Oct. 13 and Oct. 20, confirmed cases increased by 4,730, up from the previous week’s increase of 4,206. There were 124 COVID-19-related deaths during the week ending Oct. 20, up from 90 the previous week.
Locally, at Emerson Hospital, the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients increased from zero on Oct. 13 to six on Oct. 20. During that same week, the Memorial and University campuses of the UMass Medical Center in Worcester reported 20 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, slightly up from 19 reported on Oct. 13.
In the week ending Oct. 20, the Bureau of Prisons website reported one new active COVID-19 case among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, the first new case in a month. The number of active cases among staff remained at two. Since the COVID-19 outbreak at the medical center, 45 current inmates and six staff members have recovered. Two inmates died of complications from COVID-19.
