I don’t often find myself writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper (like maybe one other time), but I wanted to express my appreciation for the Harvard Press. I started with the former Post 20-plus years ago when first moving to Harvard. Over the years I’ve found myself glued to [Press] coverage of current events, school sports coverage, political opinion pieces, special interests, and letters to the editor.
I just wanted to let you know that I think the recent issue of Nov. 6, covering the election, the pandemic and its impact on Harvardians, and Harvard events like Halloween, the election, the new school, and a freak early snowstorm was one of your best. The attention to local politics, national events, and the pressures faced by officials and residents showed intelligence and compassion. I even appreciated the letters to the editor, as they were thoughtful and cogent. I don’t always agree with their points of view but I appreciate their depth and attention to issues that I had not considered.
So, this somewhat fawning letter is my way of just telling all the staff at the Press that I really appreciate this labor of love that you all produce. It captures Harvard life in a way not available in any other publication and in a way not often seen in journalism at large.
