Hoffman receives OK for fundraiser
Judith Hoffman got the board’s permission to sell waterproof tote bags at the transfer station and other town locations to raise money for the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund. Hoffman explained that her interest in helping this organization stems from that fact that her son suffers from this genetic disorder: “When I needed support, the town rallied around our family and raised a huge amount of money,” she said. “Now it’s our turn to give back.”
Selectmen consider tribute to Nancy Brown
Debi Patuto, daughter of former Waterfront Director Nancy Brown, came before the board to request permission to erect a flagpole at the beach along with a plaque to dedicate the bathhouse to her mother. Patuto has been in contact with the DPW to see if they could extend the wall at the pond entrance by another ten feet to surround the flagpole area. The plan also involves moving the “Lost and Found” rock—a rock beloved by Mrs. Brown—over to the flagpole site, where it will house a plaque honoring the longtime waterfront director, who died last year after a long battle with cancer. Town Administrator Tim Bragan plans to communicate with DPW Director Rich Nota to find out if the project will be feasible in terms of materials and labor.
A request for restitution
Deborah Skauen-Hinchliffe made a formal request that the board seek restitution to the town for School Committee Chairman Stu Sklar’s use of the Connect-Ed phone system to place a “get out the vote” call before town elections in June. She said that the state’s Office of Campaign and Political Finance had sent a “severe reprimand” to Sklar for his actions.
