The Bromfield boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Gardner last Saturday to compete in the Central Mass Division II championship race, and came away with wins that will send them to the state meet.

The Trojan women added to their dynasty, smashing second-place finisher Whitinsville by more than 35 points. This was the girls’ seventh straight district title. As reigning champs for six years running, all had high hopes.

  • Emily Jones broke the tape in first place with a time of 16:56.
  • Captain Liz Lee followed in second place, with a time of 17:38.
  • Fifth overall and third for the Trojans was Bo Dunn, with a time of 18:22.
  • Rounding off the top five were speedy sisters Emily and Lisa Reedich, finishing in times of 18:28 and 18:55 respectively.
  • Kat Long finished less than 10 seconds behind Lisa, in 15th place
  • Junior Jacqui Holmes also competed for the Trojan women.

The boys had an unprecedented day for their current team, landing in third place overall, good enough to qualify for the all-state meet this coming Saturday. Undefeated in the regular season and with the league title, the boys team was ready to shine.

  • First finisher for the boys was sophomore superstar Max Flaton, in seventh place overall, with a time of 15:37.
  • Captain Alex Calderwood crossed the line in 12th place, with a time of 15:57.
  • Junior Sam Dorward was in hot pursuit of Calderwood, placing 15th with a time of 16:00.01 over the 2.9-mile course.
  • Fourth for Bromfield was junior Ben Waldman with 16:19. He was followed by eighth-grade distance machine Nick Kronauer, who rounded off the top five with a time of 16:42.9.
  • Also running for the men were Tyler Papazian and Brendan Chen, finishing 39th and 50th respectively.

The Trojan runners will compete next in the state meet, to be held at Gardner Municipal Golf Course this Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
