U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Director Sam D. Hamilton has announced that Dan Ashe, son of Bill and Betty Ashe of Myrick Lane, has been selected as one of two deputy directors for the agency.
Ashe, who has served as science advisor to the director since 2003, will be deputy director for policy. He will oversee assistant directors in the Washington, D.C., office, providing strategic program direction, and will be responsible for developing policy and guidance to support and promote program development and fulfill the service mission.
Ashe earned a Master of Science degree in marine affairs from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences from Florida State University. He worked for 13 years on the professional staff of the former Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries in the U.S. House of Representatives. He spent his childhood in Atlanta, Ga., where his father began his 37-year career with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
