On April 16, MassDevelopment announced the appointment of George A. Ramirez to lead Devens redevelopment operations beginning May 3, replacing Richard Montuori, who resigned in January. As executive vice president of Devens operations, Ramirez will oversee the continued redevelopment of the former military base into an economic engine for north central Massachusetts.
Ramirez worked most recently as deputy director and general counsel in the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, where he facilitated state support for economic development, chaired the Economic Assistance Coordinating Council, served as a member of the Emerging Technology Fund Advisory Committee, and coordinated the Governor’s Development Cabinet.
MassDevelopment representative Kelsey Abbruzzese said that Ramirez was one of “more than 70 applicants for the position who were screened by MassDevelopment management and human resources personnel” on a list that was whittled down to 20. Nine applicants were interviewed and the final selection was made by MassDevelopment CEO Bob Culver. No local officials from Harvard were consulted during the process.
