We are fortunate in Harvard. We have a strong community, great schools, several motivated groups who work together to maintain the financial integrity of this town, and too many other people to mention. Ron Ricci is one of the many contributors in Harvard who volunteers his time, energy, and expertise.
More than 11 years ago, through my position on the Bromfield School Council, I had the opportunity to get to know Ron and his wife, Debbie.
My husband discusses sailboats and cider with Ron and I have discussions with Ron about the events and topics of the town. Admittedly, Gary and Ron agree on many more things than Ron and I. But, regardless of differing opinions, I have always found Ron to be respectful, open, and nonjudgmental, no matter what direction the discussion takes. Often, he is able to convince me of points I had previously not considered. Likewise, Ron listens to what I have to offer and can be swayed, given sound reasons, to embrace other viewpoints. Inevitably, we both walk away more informed and better able to understand both sides of an issue.
A recent example of Ron’s interpersonal skills involved his approach, as the Board of Selectmen representative, pertaining to the negotiation of a three-year contract agreement between the Harvard Teachers Association and the School Committee. Ultimately, this resulted in the successful ratification in February of this year. Ron brought a broad perspective of townwide information, insights to solutions, a calm demeanor, and a well-timed sense of humor. Ron was an integral part of the process and the outcome.
I appreciate the time and effort Ron puts into every aspect of his role as selectman. I urge voters to reelect Ron so he can continue to serve the town for the next three years.
