Approximately 80 children, parents, teachers, and staff gathered on Friday, May 3, in the courtyard of Hildreth Elementary School to plant a flowering tree in memory of teacher Barbara Ann Gould, who died in March. The day was significant, as it was Mrs. Gould’s birthday.
Mrs. Gould’s husband, Jefferson Gould, and her daughter Darby took part in the ceremony, as did her kindergarten class and many of her past students.
HES Principal Linda Dwight read a poem that Mrs. Gould often used to emphasize the essential partnership between parents and teachers. Parents Renissa Becker and Mary Arata helped to organize the event, with assistance from Acorn Tree.
Guidance counselor Christine Reale encouraged the children to fill in soil around the rose of sharon tree. When it blooms later in the summer, its blossoms will be pink, Mrs. Gould’s favorite color.
