Bromfield parents invited to open house
The Bromfield School will host an open house for parents on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 6:30 to 8:10 p.m. Parents will be able to travel through their childrens’ “A” day class rotation, meet their classroom teachers, and meet informally with guidance counselors and administrators. Students should fill out their “A” day class schedules, available on the Edline homepage, so parents can take them to the open house. The extra-curricular offerings available at Bromfield will be on display in the cafeteria between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Babysitting available for HES curriculum nights
French language students from Bromfield School will offer babysitting between 5:45 and 7:30 p.m. in the HES library for the elementary school open houses. Donations are welcome to help the students raise money for their spring trip to Bayeux, France. Open houses are as follows: Monday, Sept. 23, grade 5, 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 24, grade 1, 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Sept. 26, kindergarten, 6 to 7 p.m.
Spruce-up planned for Civil War monument
The Harvard Parks and Recreation Commission will be cleaning up around the Civil War monument, on the Common, during the day on Monday, Sept. 23.
Cultural Council grant applications due Oct. 15
The Harvard Cultural Council (HCC) is accepting applications from organizations and individuals for Local Cultural Council grants, for fiscal year 2014, to support programs that bring cultural activity to the community. This year, the HCC is especially interested in applications for teen programs and for programs related to local history and historical preservation, but also welcomes proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, or science projects. Grants are for program and project funding, not for salaries or capital equipment. Submissions must be postmarked by Oct. 15 and returned to the Harvard Cultural Council, 13 Ayer Road, Harvard, MA 01451. Visiting volunteer training starts Sept. 27
Nashoba Nursing Service & Hospice needs volunteers, 18 years and older, to provide in-home support for seniors in Harvard and surrounding towns. Requirements are a caring heart, two to four hours a week, and the desire to offer companionship and practical support to seniors and their families. Nashoba Nursing Service will provide volunteers with training and support. Training is every Friday, begininning Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and runs through Nov. 15. HES needs gardening help
The Hildreth Elementary School (HES) courtyard needs the tender loving care of garden volunteers, either individuals or families. Green thumbs are not required. Flu shots offered on Oct. 15
The Nashoba Associated Boards of Health and Harvard Board of Health will sponsor a flu shot clinic—conducted by the Nashoba Nursing Service—for residents aged 6 months and older on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Hildreth House from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants should bring their health insurance cards. Consignment shop opens Oct. 1
Bargains in the Belfry, a consignment shop for lightly used women’s and men’s clothing, will open for the fall season on Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be open Tuesdays thereafter and will also be open on the first and third Sunday of each month, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., starting in October. Bargains in the Belfry is in the belfry of the Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church. Entrance is through the side door, near the front door.
