Last Saturday, the Bromfield speech and debate team attended its first tournament of the year: the Dighton-Rehoboth Luau. Bromfield had a promising start at the Hawaii-themed competition, tying Concord-Carlisle Regional High School for the fourth place Small School award, an impressive feat considering that Harvard’s team was half the size of its competitor’s. The team competed in events such as radio broadcasting, group discussion, poetry reading, and observing public forum debate. In an impressive showing of presence, organization, and intelligence, sophomore Lily Moore-Eissenberg won first place in the group discussion event, even though it was her first time competing in the event.
Students who competed were Carlisle Ferguson, Olivia Stoffel, Emma Stoffel, Katie Erdos, Lily Moore-Eissenberg, Deirdre Kennedy, Sylvia Ren, Grace Barton, Julia LeBlanc, and Jenn Woolcock. Seventh-graders Chris Thornton, Nikhil Kommineni, Kevin Yu, and Yohhan Kumrarainghe all observed the public forum debate. The team, which includes students from grades 7 to 12, is busy preparing for its next meet at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in December.
