COA Friends need you
The Friends of the Harvard Council on Aging need a volunteer who possesses social media skills to help design a website or create a Facebook page. Anyone who is interested in working on these projects for the Friends should contact Sharon Briggs at slbriggs@charter.net.
McCurdy Track closed
The McCurdy Track is closed for re-surfacing and will remain closed until the work is done. Depending on weather and subsequent work conditions, the track is slated to reopen in late October.
Selectmen candidates’ debate
The Harvard Press and the League of Women Voters of Harvard will cosponsor a selectmen candidates’ debate, 7 p.m. Oct. 20 in Volunteers Hall. Send your questions to debate@harvardpress.com.
Register to vote
by next week
The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 4 state and special town elections is Wednesday, Oct. 15, with extended hours on that day from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Town Hall.
The last day to register to vote at the Special Town Meeting (currently scheduled for Oct. 29) is Friday, Oct. 17, with special hours on that day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Regular hours at the town clerk’s office are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.)

Absentee ballots
Absentee ballots for the Nov. 4 state election are available now. Absentee ballots for the Special Town Election will be available on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Absentee ballots are for those who will be out of town on election day or cannot get to the polls due to physical restrictions. Applications for the ballots are available from the town clerk’s office at Town Hall, on the town’s website, and on the Secretary of State’s website (www.sec.state.ma.us/ele).
Note from the library
The Harvard Public Library will be closed Saturday, Oct. 11, to accommodate the 43rd annual Harvard Flea Market, which is held on the grounds of the library and the Bromfield School.
Boat storage ends soon
Residents who store boats at Bare Hill Pond are reminded that all boats must be removed from the racks no later than Wednesday, Oct. 22. The preferred date of removal is Wednesday, Oct. 15, according to the Parks and Recreation Commission website.
