Above the fold in your Dec. 19 edition is a photo of two young girls holding their lit candles as they walk from the Ecumenical Christmas Pageant to the tree lighting. This captures the spirit of Christmas in Harvard, the Harvard I grew up in. A place of community, hope, and faith.
Below the fold, a headline: “Affordable housing project draws opposition at town boards.” The Planning Board chair had to “remind speakers to remain civil in their commentary.” The tired laundry list of resident objections was once again listed. The same ones that surface whenever any housing proposal is considered that includes low and moderate income people.
The juxtaposition of these articles captures something important about our town. It is clearly time for inclusive housing here.
In fact, long overdue.
