This week police made three traffic stops, all of which resulted in verbal warnings. They also helped one motorist with a disabled vehicle. The ambulance crew responded to three medical emergencies and took two people to the hospital, one with Advanced Life Support on board. One person refused treatment or transport to the hospital.
Tuesday, Jan. 24
At 7:21 a.m. a Mass. Ave. resident reported that a white box truck had demolished his mailbox. Police found that the truck’s airbags had deployed, so they called for fire and ambulance response as well. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and refused medical treatment or transport to the hospital. He was cited for traveling too fast for road conditions and for failing to stay within marked lanes. An Ayer Road resident called at 10:37 a.m. to report having just discovered that his snowblower had been stolen. Police are investigating.

Thursday, Jan. 26
Someone called at 11:58 a.m. to report a wire down on East Bare Hill Road. Police determined it was a cable-TV wire and notified the cable company to fix it. A motorist heading west on Still River Road called at 4:38 p.m. to report traveling behind a vehicle that was being driven erratically, weaving back and forth across the median lines. An officer went to the area but did not locate the vehicle in question.
Friday, Jan. 27
At 10:42 a.m. someone called to report a minor accident at Foxglove Apartments, where one car backed into another. Police say damage was less than $1,000. No citations were issued. A patrol officer stopped at a construction site on Stow Road at 1:44 p.m. and told workers that the trucks parked along the road were a hazard. One of the workers told the officer that they were just about to put up signs to warn motorists around the vehicles. A patrol officer called dispatch at 8:43 p.m. to say that wet roads around town were becoming icy. Dispatch asked the Department of Public Works to treat the roads.
Saturday, Jan. 28
An Old Shirley Road resident called at 7:46 a.m. to report a power outage caused by a blown transformer. National Grid was notified to send a crew to repair it. At 10 a.m. someone called to report concerns about an unfamiliar car parked on the roadside near the intersection of Old Shirley and Ayer roads. Police report that it was a disabled vehicle, and they stopped to offer assistance to the driver.
Sunday, Jan. 29
A Prospect Hill Road resident called at 12:53 p.m. to report that two blue cars were speeding on that road. The cars were gone when police arrived.
Monday, Jan. 30
At 12:38 p.m. a resident called to report concerns about an unfamiliar vehicle parked nearby. An Old Mill Road resident called at 5:21 p.m. to report a stolen license plate.
