At Monday’s meeting, School Committee members presented their annual review of Superintendent of Schools Linda Dwight and agreed that she met or exceeded expectations in all five of the goals set for her performance in the past year. The goals were to strengthen the district’s new leadership team; to advance innovative teaching and learning; to make progress on the district improvement plan; to network with other districts for new ideas; and to lead the elementary school building project successfully through its feasibility phase.
Dwight received equally high ratings in the goals she was expected to achieve in partnership with the School Committee, such as reaching a successful contract with the teachers’ union, moving forward with the elementary school project, and establishing a financial plan to stabilize athletic user fees. And the committee rated her proficient or exemplary on more than two dozen other measures of professional achievement in leading the Harvard school system.
Committee member Nancy Lancellotti added that it was hard to find ways to give Dwight credit for all the things she did above and beyond the items that “fit into the boxes” in an evaluation.
After hearing the committee’s strong endorsement, Dwight said, “It’s rewarding to spend a year doing this important work. … This means a lot to me.”
Chairwoman Mary Traphagen replied, “You are truly an asset to this community. I am always amazed at your leadership.”
